Industrial action formal complaints
Leicester UCU has confirmed industrial action, including strike days and Action Short of Strike (ASOS), from 15 September 2025 to 28 February 2026. This relates to national concerns over potential compulsory redundancies in the 2025/26 academic year.
Discontinuous strike action took place between 29 September and October 2025, and the University has been notified of further planned action between 10 and 21 November 2025. Discontinuous means that staff may choose to participate in one, multiple, or all dates.
Compensation for disruption
In line with guidance from the Office for Students (OfS), the University will proactively identify students affected by cancelled teaching which is not rescheduled or where learning outcomes are not delivered in other ways, or delayed marking and offer compensation without requiring students to submit claims. This marks a change from previous practice.
Compensation will be:
- Proportionate to the disruption experienced
- Calculated using a standard formula based on missed teaching hours or delayed assessment feedback
- Offered directly to affected students via email from the Student Conduct and Complaints Team.
Students will be invited to complete a claim form to accept the offer or identify additional losses (e.g., missed supervision or tutorials). Accepted offers will be treated as full and final settlement for the identified disruption, but students may still raise further claims or complaints if needed.
