Media and Communication at Leicester

Research

Since its establishment as the UK's first Centre for Mass Communication Research in 1966, Media and Communication at Leicester has developed a global reputation for producing innovative and high-quality research in the field of media and communication.

In the most recent Research Excellence Framework (2021) we were ranked 7th for our overall research quality, with 95% of our research overall judged to be 'world-leading' or internationally excellent'.

Our research is both inter- and multi-disciplinary and committed to socially progressive collaborations and partnerships with a wide array of organisations. Many of our academics act as consultants and advisers to national and international NGOs, public and private sector agencies, government departments, and grassroots and community media organisations – allowing us to showcase our discoveries and apply our insights.

Our current activity is organised around distinctive, but intersecting, research clusters that bring together expert scholars in contemporary UK and international media and communication as well as colleagues from the combined School of Arts, Media, and Communication.
