Contemporary Challenges in Intellectual Property Law

This module engages with contemporary challenges confronting intellectual property law in light of ongoing political, legal and technological developments. We will critically examine issues that push the boundaries of established legal frameworks, drawing on both domestic and international perspectives.
Topics explored include exceptions to copyright infringement, authors’ moral rights, the intersection of IP and artificial intelligence, traditional knowledge, development, biotechnology, climate change, access to medicines and standard essential patents. Through these themes, we will question how effectively current IP regimes address emerging concerns and you will develop the tools for applying this understanding across a range of industries and policy contexts.
