Health Law II

Module code: LW7294

This module will introduce you to some specific issues in health law, following on from the general issues as addressed in Health Law 1. This module will focus specifically on the beginning and end of life; issues covered will include assisted reproductive treatment, abortion, the legal status of the foetus, the legal definition of death, organ transplantation, withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment, the legal prohibition of assisted dying, and broader end of life decision-making. We will explore how the law engages with some of the most difficult and emotive topics within health care - those involving life and death. The focus will be primarily on the domestic law of England and Wales, but with some reference to international human rights treaties, such as the ECHR, and comparative jurisdictions where relevant.
