Inequalities and Health
Module code: LW7298
This module will be of interest to students who would like to learn how people’s health is influenced by factors beyond their access to a doctor. In other words, the module takes as its starting point the idea that ‘health’ is a far broader concept – and influenced by far more than the doctor-patient interaction – that is traditionally presented in Health Law courses. In particular, public health and the health of individuals can be influenced to a considerable degree by inequalities at personal, societal and even international levels. You will have the opportunity to study the social and legal determinants of individual, public and planetary health at national and global levels. We will consider various issues including: how Intellectual Property Law shapes access to medicines; forced migration and health inequalities; the impact of global policies on health inequalities; and planetary health inequalities - amongst other topics. You will be encouraged to reflect critically on the module materials and given plenty of opportunities for interaction in teaching and learning.
