On Thursday, 12 June 2025, Athena in Leicester will come alive with the sounds of jazz as Leicester Big Band hosts Swing and Shuffle – A Charity Big Band Gala.
With doors opening at 6.30pm, guests will be treated to a world-class musical line-up, featuring Leicester’s beloved Big Band along with guest performances from Little Voices, LCPA, and Miss Ann Oliver’s MBE Stage School. The evening’s headline act Dennis van Aarssen, is internationally celebrated as the ‘world’s best crooner’.
Swing and Shuffle is also about more than just entertainment—it’s about making a difference. Alongside the performances, the event will feature a talk from Dr Alan Whone, a global expert in Parkinson’s research, highlighting the importance of funding breakthroughs in treatment.
Geoff Green, Registrar and Secretary at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our students, staff, alumni, and the wider Leicester community to come together in support of Parkinson’s UK. Music has the power to bring people together, inspire action, and create lasting change, and this event does just that. We’re proud to stand behind Leicester Big Band and their efforts to raise vital funds for Parkinson’s research.”
All proceeds from the night will go directly to Parkinson’s UK, supporting critical research and care for those affected by the condition. With donation points, raffle prizes, and a licensed bar, attendees can enjoy a lively, fun-filled evening while contributing to a cause that touches thousands of lives.
