Profile

I hold the position of Associate Professor of Stroke Medicine at the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. In addition, I am an Honorary Consultant Stroke Physician at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. As I move towards research independence I lead and collaborate on a number of clinical and physiologically focused stroke studies in addition to a number of research based leadership roles.

Project Grant: 01/08/2020 to 01/08/2022: Co-I, MRC LD3 Confidence in Concept Grant: Brain TV confidence in concept: severe brain injury £30,000. Co-applicant on this industry linked study, using a novel ultrasound device assessing brain pulsatility. This study has led to a number of outputs, with the main results paper published in the Journal of Neurological Sciences (DOI:10.1016/j.jns.2020.117164).

NIHR CLAHRC Phase V funded study. I engaged in the CPRD data extraction process, designing and analysing extracted data. This led to identification of a blood pressure threshold for patients with atrial fibrillation (DOI:10.1097/HJH.0000000000002487) and a prize winning study for a medical student (DOI:10.1007/s40292-020-00363-4).

Postgraduate Fellowship: 01/08/2017 to 31/07/2020: PI, Dunhill Medical Trust Research Training Fellowship: Feasibility of improving cerebral autoregulation in intracerebral haemorrhage. £211,471. Principal investigator on this clinical research training fellowship, delivering the multi-award winning (Royal College of Physicians Quincentennial Lecturer Award & European Stroke Organisation Award) BREATHE-ICH study (ClinicalTrials.gov:NCT03324321 and DOI: 10.1177/1747493019873690). I was awarded the Lauder Prize for best MD 2018-19.

I study all aspects of acute stroke haemodynamic physiology though have a particular interest in acute intracerebral haemorrhage haemodynamics and cerebrovascular reactivity assessment.
