Profile

As a PhD candidate in Museum Studies at Â鶹ÊÓƵ, my research examines the ideological functions of museums in contemporary China, with a particular focus on the role of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in fulfilling political objectives through museums and heritage.

With a BA in Cultural Relics and Museology and an MA in Museum Studies, my academic background bridges practical museology and critical theory. My research engages with both archaeological heritage and red tourism, exploring how different forms of the past are curated to serve contemporary political narratives. Drawing on contemporary museology, cultural studies, and discourse analysis, I explore how museums and heritage operate as mediums of political performance and identity formation.

Research

My research contributes to the understanding of museums as context-dependent institutions, challenging homogenizing and universalist frameworks in museological discourse. I aim to foreground the specificity of Chinese museum practices and to engage critically with how power, politics, and memory intersect in heritage representation.

Interests

I am especially interested in how CCP-related nationalism is constructed, communicated, and legitimized within the museum space.

My research interests can be broadly summarised as follows:

  • The interrelated dynamics between partocracy, propaganda, nationalism, and museums/heritage
  • The ideological dimensions in the display of archaeological site museums
  • Red tourism and patriotic education in revolutionary sites in China
  • The presentation of Second World War memories in Chinese museums

I am currently seeking postdoctoral or fellowship opportunities, and I welcome discussions and collaborations with researchers working on related topics.
