Email: olivia.leavy@leicester.ac.uk
Profile
I have a BSc in Mathematics and Statistics (Oxford Brookes University) and an MSc in Medical Statistics (Oxford Brookes University).
I completed a PhD in Genetic Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) supervised by Professor Frank Dudbridge. My PhD focused on the genetic architecture of breast cancer.
I was then a researcher at LSHTM on the FORECEE consortium project, which aimed to develop a screening test that prevents breast, womb, ovarian and cervical cancer. I analysed genetic and epigenetic data. In 2017, during this post, I moved to the Â鶹ÊÓƵ as a visiting researcher.
Since 2019, I have been working as a research associate at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ, focusing on the genetics of interstitial lung disease. In 2020, I also became involved in the Post-hospitalisation COVID-19 study (PHOSP-COVID).
Research
My research focuses on understanding the genetics of interstitial lung diseases. Previously, I have performed analyses to assess the definition of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) in the UK Biobank using genetic information and to estimate the proportion of IPF risk explained by known common genetic variants. I have also performed Mendelian randomisation analyses and genome-wide association interaction analyses to gain a better understanding of the disease.
As part of the Post-hospitalisation COVID-19 study (PHOSP-COVID) I have performed analyses to better understand COVID-19 and long COVID following hospitalisation.
