Profile

I am a researcher for the MBRRACE-UK perinatal mortality surveillance team within the TIMMS research group at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ, having completed my PhD on "An Investigation of Ethnic and Socioeconmic Inequalities in Stillbirth Rates using National Perinatal Mortality Surveillance Data for England" using MBRRACE-UK data in 2024.

I have worked at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ since 1999, with a career break from 2010-2014. Throughout my research career I have worked extensively with large databases, both epidemiological studies and clinical trials, and with routinely collected health services and surveillance data. Prior to my career break, my research focussed on the health of older people, including work on social determinants of health. In 2014 I joined the TIMMS research group and have provided statistical support for the LAMBS and PICANET studies prior to joining the MBRRACE-UK team.

I have a particular interest in health inequalities, including the measurement of social determinants of health such as ethnicity and socioeconomic deprivation in national data sources. I have experience of scale validation, longitudinal analysis, cluster techniques such as cluster analysis, principal components analysis and latent class analysis.

Research

I am a researcher for , the national collaborative programme of work undertaking the surveillance and investigation of stillbirths, neonatal deaths, and maternal deaths in the UK. As statistician for MBRRACE-UK, I format, program, and analyse data for the UK's national perinatal mortality surveillance report and online data viewer.

I am a member of the Europeristat collaboration (), which aims to collate and publish reliable data on perinatal mortality across Europe. I am also part of the Vulnerable Newborns Collaboration, a multi-country partnership in order to apply standard definitions and undertake analyses for vulnerable newborn phenotypes led by colleagues at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine ()
