Profile

Tracey has been a registered adult nurse prior to becoming a midwife in 2003, working at University Hospitals of Leicester (NHS) Trust until 2022 in a variety of roles, providing antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care within the hospital and community.  Most recently working as a practice development midwife providing education and training to the multidisciplinary team.

Research

I have conducted a qualitative research study exploring the factors that influence newly qualified midwives in their decision-making process regarding where to work upon graduation. This study provides valuable insights into the personal, professional, and systemic considerations that shape early career choices in midwifery, with implications for workforce planning, recruitment, and retention strategies within maternity services.

Teaching

I hold a Master’s Degree in Clinical Education, a Postgraduate Certificate in Interprofessional Education, and am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). My academic and professional focus lies in advancing midwifery education and fostering collaborative, interprofessional learning environments.

Currently, I serve as the Module Lead for the following areas:

  • Midwifery Practice
  • Additional Care Needs
  • Pharmacology in Midwifery Practice

In addition to my module leadership, I contribute to teaching across several key areas, including:

  • Interprofessional Education (IPE) modules
  • Emergencies in Childbearing
  • Clinical Skills, where I also hold a leadership role

I am also the Placement Lead for Midwifery Practice, overseeing the coordination and quality assurance of clinical placements to ensure students gain meaningful, practice-based learning experiences.

My work is driven by a commitment to excellence in teaching, student support, and the development of safe, competent, and compassionate healthcare professionals.
