Troubleshooting student ID Card issues
If your student ID card is not working as expected, this page will help you find out what to do. Please note, if you have been issued with a new or replacement card, it can take up to to 48 hours to start working everywhere on campus.
If your card is new, please make sure that you have activated your card before you start using it to register your attendance. You can do this by holding it against any SALTO reader until it turns green, this should take around 20 seconds.
It is also important to refresh you card regularly by scanning your cards on one of the SALTO readers. You can do this by holding it again any SALTO reader until it turns green. If you do not scan your card every 30 days your card may stop working until you refresh your card.

If your card does not need activating or refreshing, the most common issues and who is best placed to assist you are outlined below.
If your student card does not flash GREEN, when registering attendance
If the SALTO card reader flashes RED, BLUE or BLUE then RED, please visit the , located at the back of the David Wilson Library, next to the entrance to Fielding Johnson Building, South Wing.
If your student card flashes GREEN, but does not log your attendance
In this case please visit the , located at the back of the David Wilson Library, next to the entrance to Fielding Johnson Building, South Wing. This team will be able to review your access rights.
If your student card is not letting you past the Library entrance turnstiles
If this occurs please speak to Library staff at the Information Hub, in the David Wilson Library.
If your student card is not letting you access the Doctoral College Reading Room
Please note: the Doctoral College Reading Room is only accessible to Research Postgraduates.
If your are a Research Postgraduate Student and you cannot access this room, please visit the , located at the back of the David Wilson Library, next to the entrance to Fielding Johnson Building, South Wing. This team will be able to review your access rights.
If your student card is not allowing you to access a room or building you should have access to

If your student card is not working and the issue is not one of the above
Please visit the Information Hub at the David Wilson Library during staffed opening hours, or email us at studentservices@leicester.ac.uk explaining the issue. Please note that we may need to see the physical card to diagnose any issues, and depending where the issues lies you may be signposted to another to team who will be better placed to resolve the issue.
